Santorini is the world-famous volcanic island, known for its romantic sunsets that attract thousands of tourists every summer to this beautiful Greek island.

  • Santorini is a Greek island, which belongs to the Cyclades group of islands.
  • It is located in the most southern part of the Cyclades group of islands in the Aegean Sea about 200 km southeast of Greece’s mainland.
  • It covers an area of approximately 73 km2.
  • It is also referred to as Thira or classic Greek Thera.
  • This is where one of the biggest volcanic eruptions in world history took place. A submerged caldera and a crater are what exist today from the volcano, which is still active.

  • The picturesque villages of Santorini are mostly built on the edge of huge cliffs  and they distinguish for their sugar-cube houses, the paved streets, the wonderful churches and most of all the breathtaking view to the Aegean Sea.
  • Oia is considered by many as the most enchanting place on the island as it offers superb sunset views. The best place to watch the sunset in Oia are Kastro walls.
  • The most famous beach on the island is the Red beach, with hot water and black and red volcanic pebbles.
  • Its wild volcanic landscape, rugged cliffs and beautiful beaches combined with its rich history and traditions make Santorini one of the top tourist destinations in the world.
  • Due to its special atmosphere, Santorini has become a very popular honeymoon destination.
  • The best time to visit Santorini is between April and October.
