Iván Pellicer is a Spanish actor, known for his role in Movistar’s hit series ‘Paraíso’. Next he’ll be seen in Netflix’s ‘Sagrada familia’, which is premiering on 14 October. ‘Sagrada familia’ is ushering in an exciting new season for this young actor, of whom we’ll be seeing much more in the coming years.
Iván, you’re starring in the new Netflix series ‘Sagrada familia’ (‘Holy Family’) about a family, who’s hiding a shocking secret and is starting over in Madrid, where new relationships complicate their plans and the past begins to catch up with them. Tell us more about the story of the series and about your character.
This series is quite special and beautiful in the way it was filmed. What Manolo Caro does is pure beauty. I can’t reveal too much about my role just yet, but I can tell you that the season kicks off with him doing penance on orders of his mother.
The series is directed by Manolo Caro and you’ve been co-starring in it with Najwa Nimri, Alex García and Alvaro Rico. How was it working on this set, with this cast and crew?
It was one of the best experiences I’ve had in my career so far. I learned so much shooting with so many experienced actors. Each day on set I learned something new.
Last year, you were starring in Movistar’s hit series ‘Paraíso’, a successful science-fiction mystery series set back in 1992. What is your favorite storyline of this series?
What I liked the most about this project is the fact that it is so fresh and new. Sci-fi as a genre has never really been explored in Spain. I had a blast playing a character with super powers.
A few years ago, you moved to Madrid to study acting under Juan Codina and Leticia Santafé. What is the most valuable and important thing that you’ve learned while studying with them?
The most important thing I learned from this experience is to be true to myself.
Have you always wanted to be an actor?
No. I actually wanted to be a marine biologist. The acting came much later and out of a bit of rebellion.
Have you looked up to any actor in particular, Spanish or international, when you decided to pursue a career in acting?
I don’t have anyone in particular that I especially look up to per se, but I am very much inspired by the work of Laia Costa and Javier Cámara.
You were born in Murcia, in the southeast of Spain, and then moved to Madrid. What do you love the most about Madrid?
What I like most about this city is the variety of cultural events there are. It’s a crossroad where so many people from different places meet.
How would you describe yourself, not only as a person, but also as an actor?
I feel I am very impulsive. I don’t dwell much on things, I am very visceral. However, lately I have been on a path of discovery of other ways of seeing life and acting as well.
Tell us something about yourself, that we don’t know and would maybe surprise us about you.
When I was a kid I played hockey and dreamt of playing in the NHL.
‘Sagrada familia’ is the next step in your exciting future career. What can you share with us about your upcoming projects?
There are a few projects I have lined up, but unfortunately I cannot reveal anything just yet. I am dying to tell everyone about them though. I would very much like to work in theatre.
